Leadership in Practice

Leadership in Practice is a suite of focused workshops that turn leadership concepts into practical skills and everyday habits. Each session focuses on the moments that matter most: the way leaders influence, coach, decide, and communicate. The emphasis is on application, helping participants bridge the gap between knowing and doing.

Grounded in research and shaped by years of working alongside leaders in complex environments, the series blends practical tools, interactive learning, and reflection to create meaningful change that lasts.

Leadership in Practice workshops can stand alone or form part of a broader capability pathway, providing a flexible way for organisations to embed consistent, constructive leadership behaviours across teams.

  • Making the transition to a coaching style of leader can be challenging but it will have a significant impact on team performance and organisational culture.

Coaching skills have a much broader application than just coaching a team member. This workshop challenges leaders to consider a coaching style in many of their interactions.

    What will I learn?

    • Understand how coaching builds greater accountability, ownership and creativity.

    • Developing a coaching mind-set.

    • Explore the concept of performance/ potential and ‘interference’.

    • Demonstrate core coaching skills, with a focus on effective listening, questioning, and creating accountability.

    • How to apply coaching in a variety of settings: feedback, performance planning and review, team meetings, stakeholder engagement and others.

    • Coaching as a culture change initiative.

    • Practice with real topics participants prepare in advance.

  • A common organisational challenge is leaders not changing their mindset when they step up to the next level. It is hard to let go of that which made us successful in our previous role and to change our habits and behaviours.

This workshop encourages leaders to adopt the different skills and thinking required at the next level:

    • Moving through levels of leadership. What changes?

    • Who is my ‘first team’? A step up and culture challenge for leaders.

    • Connecting leadership, values, culture and performance.

    • Changes in thinking when we move from transactional to transformational leadership.

    • Leading in a Matrix Organisation. What changes now that traditional ‘hierarchical’ decision making is no longer the norm?

  • Performance Conversations are not just about managing poor performance. Great leaders have regular, informal feedback to build a high-performance culture.

This workshop provides the core skills for having effective, regular performance conversations, including tackling those challenging interactions.

    • Communication essentials
